This morning the 2009 Emmy nominations were announced! An extra slot in this years categories brought some newbies to the playing field, there is now now six nominees instead of five in each. Overall NBC's 30 Rock was the most-nominated show with 22 nods, and HBO had the most nominations of any network with 99.
Here is a recap of the nominations...
-Family Guy became the first animated series since The Flintstones in 1961 to be nominated as Best Comedy Series. Fighting Family Guy for the title is Entourage, Flight of the Conchords, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, 30 Rock and Weeds.
-Best Dramatic Series nominees are Big Love, Breaking Bad, Damages, Dexter, House, Lost and Mad Men.
-In the new category added this year, Best Comedy, Musical and Variety Series, The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Late Show with David Letterman, Real Time with Bill Maher and Saturday Night Live were nominated.
-Baldwin's Rock co-star, Tina Fey, will be back to defend her comedy lead actress crown against Christina Applegate of the now-defunct Samantha Who?, Toni Collette (United States of Tara), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds) and Sarah Silverman (The Sarah Silverman Program).
-Last year's drama lead actor winner, Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston, is back on the ballot. He's up against Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Hugh Laurie (House) and The Mentalist's Baker.
- Snubs to name a few include,  24's Kiefer Sutherland (who missed out on drama lead actor, but earned a miniseries actor nomination), as well as James Spader, David Duchovny, and three-time comedy supporting actor winner Jeremy Piven. Also noticeably absent was Ugly Betty's America Ferrera, the 2007 winner for the comedy lead actress.
Neil Patrick Harris will host the Emmys, which will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 20 on CBS, don't forget to check it out or set your DVR's!
