A spokeswoman for John Hughes says the director of nearly every 1980s coming-of-age films that touched my childhood has died.
Michelle Bega said Hughes, 59, died of a heart attack during a morning walk in Manhattan. He was in New York City to visit family.
He directed “Sixteen Candles,” “Breakfast Club,” “Weird Science” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and wrote “Home Alone.” He lived in Illinois and set many of his films in the Chicago area.
He will be sadly missed. And I give it five months til that “Breakfast Club” remake heats back up in development.
